How to inspire interiors

Ian Mankin, British weavers of designer furnishing fabrics, was founded in 1983 and is renowned for new and stylish interpretations of natural and organic fabrics in a simple yet timeless palette of colours.  Design, quality and service, along with a pride in the Made in Britain heritage, are at the very heart of their business.

All of their fabrics are designed and woven at their own Lancashire weaving mill, now run by the sixth generation of the same family for over 150 years.

We were commissioned to make lampshades to launch a new fabric range called Perth, British fabric manufacturer Ian Mankin’s most extensive collection to date. Moving on from the traditional single yarn plain to a rich, heathery textured multi-dimensional weave, Perth is available in 40 timeless colourways - a considered and considerable extension of the brand’s existing palette.

The whole Ian Mankin photo shoot is a wonderful example of how to present fabrics in interiors - of course I'm looking at the lampshades, but the Perth fabric is also used for table cloths, runners, bed covers, headboards, furnishing upholstery and curtains.

Product launch photoshoot

The stylist made the most of our lamination options & coordinated the Perth fabric shades with the internal laminations perfectly.

4 sizes of lampshade were chosen, one for each of the scenes & the fabric colour & lamination to compliment the furnishings - the idea is to create inspirational shots showing what can be done with Ian Mankin fabrics .

The table lampshade in Mauve Perth has a satin Taupe lining.

The cylinder pendants in the bedroom are in  Perth Bronze with a satin Bronze lamination, grouped in 3 these give a delicate effect as opposed to using a great big shade to fill a space.

A medium drum shade over the breakfast table in Perth Oatmeal with a satin Gold lamination, is a neutral feature that disappears into its background, whereas the large Charcoal Perth shade with brushed silver lining is positioned over the cafe table for dramatic impact.
